Every Sunday...Rodalben

Post by BIGWAVEDAVE on Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:34 am

Guys,
Going back to riding Rodalben every Sunday. Meet at the cemetary at 8 a.m. for around 3 hour spin. It's OK if you want to go ahead or fall back. You can't get lost if you follow the "F" Trail. Right now...there aren't many leaves on the trail....but who cares anyway??? It is awesome if you had to do it anyways.

Rode it last weekend, had a couple of spills. One knocked the wind out of me...thought I busted the sternum..this ride is a mecca for those who haven't rode who don't know what I'm talking about. This is a fast and furious ride!!! Don't let anyone tell you different.

Cheers. Hope to see you there at 0745!

The cemetary (or Friedhof) is easy to get to. It's a nice starting point. Once in Rodalben, you will take the first left after the AVIA gas station. Follow this down until you see a group of signs pointing upward to your left. Drive up until you come to a playground and a large parking lot. This is where the old "Rhein-Main" gang used to set up camp. Still a great area to start/stop because it's out of the way, parking is good, and it goes right into a climb to the sweet stuff. Hope to see others out there. Like I said, I want to make this my thing.. Big Wave Dave

Should have mentioned. "Those signs" say Friedhof, or cemetary. Go uphill past parked cars until you reach a cobblestone parking lot. That is the staging area. A very nice place. Kinda makes you appreciate life and the "F" trail at the same time.
Cheers.

Written on www.mtbr.com on 27 Sep 03. Friends Dave Guth and Jesus Rodriquez messed with me by pretending to be from the Netherlands telling me thier buddy went for life's final ride at Rodalben blowing his head off after one sweet singletrack ride because he had terminal cancer. If you want a good laugh read on. Dave and Jesus did not reveal this joke until 3 months later on our Sunday Rodalben ride. They had me feelin bad. Not too bad because I was happy our make believe friend got to ride there. Smile Sick, twisted, but funny at the same time. Make it happen!

Summary:
I feel that the previous reviews captured the key points about the 50km of the best singletrack in Germany and the most panoramic forest in Western Europe. I have actually thought about going on a death ride. At 90 years old when I am broken down, missing teeth, and riddled with arthritis. I want to go for lifes final ride at Rodablen. This would not only ensure my salvation but create memories for me in the afterlife. Fact is, I love perfect dirt, jumps, ups and downs that are thrown at you while you speed violently over this beautiful landscape. Rodalben brings out my animal instincts in me. Weather is not a factor here. Rain, sleet, snow, natural disasters would not stop me as I find in pure nirvana to kick its ass time and time again. I only wish we had a Rodalben in the greater Seattle area. Hikers are great too. They are friendly and if your trail edicut is good, they might patch up your head wound or call in a medivac while securing your bike and gear. God Bless those MF'ers. I have ridden the trail when they set up those sticks and logs to restrict bikers from treading the ground apart. One solution is edicate. I have lost gear out there, tools, sunglasses, bottles, a watch. All sacrifices to the gawd of singletrack. Love it brothers and sisters, kiss the soil and take out your anger on the world in pure natures playground. Respect Rodalben.

Hey Matt..Yes, I will ride tommorow. (Every sunday). I get there at 0745 and leave promptly at 0800. The Friedhof (or cemetary) sign is amongst several green signs pointing you to various interests in the city. Have you rode the Ablen before?

Shady and I are in, we don't usually park at the cemetery so be patient if we are a few minutes late...

yea, I should be there. Low chance of rain. This might be the perfect opportunity to get the Jamis dirty. Time to give the SS a break!

Good ride. Just myself and Nettleburg showed up. The trail was wet with wet leaves. It was super slippery. At least it wasn't raining though. We called it quits after the first half. I've been using runsaturday to upload my GPS maps and its pretty cool. Check out the ride:
