Group Ride
Just got into town and put my bikes together. Anyone going on any group rides anytime soon?

Re: Group Ride
Sorry I didn't get your post until today. I was still a little time warped yesterday anyway. I'm staying in Ramstein, and I get off work around 1530. I will ride today somewhere around 1630.

Re: Group Ride
Any one know about riding the roads from Ramstein to Kusel? Are they safe, any good hills?

Re: Group Ride
I am not sure about Ramstein to Kusel, but I know from My end to Kusel is not bad, plenty of climbing. I will probably ride again tonight and for sure on Friday. Thursday is out for me unless I go in the morning. We have a party that we have to attend.

Re: Group Ride
I mapped out the Ramstien-Kusel route. I'll post tomorrow how it went. I also saw what looked like a good route to load in my GPS from the www.mapmyride.com website. I think I'll do that tomorrow or Friday if anyone would like to go.
I want to do Ramstien to Idar-Oberstein with a stop at the castle in Frokelberg on the way.

Re: Group Ride
The Ramstien/Idar-Oberstein gig would be Saturday or Sunday, any time is fine if I could get someone to go.
My bike club back home has group rides every Sat and Sun mornings. I was hoping I could find a group like that here. Especially since I don't know my way around.
I tried getting to Kusel last night but got lost. I mapped it out via google maps using the walking option. I printed out all the different segments, but missed a turn somewhere. Some of the paved bike paths turned into gravel, but I rode them anyway. You need a cyclecross bike here. I had my garmin so I looked at my route via google earth. I think I know where I went wrong. I'll probably try again late this afternoon/early evening. I can't get out of work till 1600 and I need some time to get ready.

Good deal. The weather looks like it's cooling down for the weekend.

Re: Group Ride
I figured out how to get to Kusel from Ramstein tonight. I used roads and these paved trails that are around here that sometimes turn into gravel. It was 30 miles round trip and 3-4 on gravel. The trails keep you off of the busy roads, so riding a little gravel seems worth it.
Pretty tough ride with just over 3000 feet of climbing, and steep climbs at that. One of the last climbs on the way back was 23% in places. Kicked my butt.
I saw a rhino. You guys know where that's at? If anyone would like to try the route let me know. Not tomorrow though, I'm resting tomorrow.
